The Motorola-made Nexus 6 officially reached its retirement, as the older Android phablet is no longer available for purchase from the Google Store.
As a reminder, the Nexus 6 made its debut back in 2014 as the first-ever phablet in the Nexus lineup, boasting high-end specs and a massive 6-inch display. At the same time, the Nexus 6 also marked a departure from the affordability of its predecessors, arriving as a more premium device with a price to match.
With the newer LG Nexus 5X and Huawei Nexus 6P launched earlier this year, the Motorola Nexus 6 is no longer the latest smartphone in the lineup and Google has now decided to retire the device.
The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are now the only smartphones in the Nexus lineup that are still available from the Google Store, as the Nexus 6 is now listed with a label that says “no longer available for purchase.”
Nevertheless, the fact that Google decided to stop selling the Nexus 6 itself doesn’t mean that the phablet is no longer available at all. Retailers such as Amazon and Expansys are still offering the device, selling the 32 GB model for $349.99 and $369.99, respectively. Expansys is also selling the higher-capacity 64 GB Nexus 6 model, which goes up to $469.99. Motorola is still selling the Nexus 6 as well.
As a reminder, the Motorola Nexus 6 features a 6-inch QHD display with a high resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, draws processing power from a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, and packs 3 GB of RAM for a fast and fluid performance. Other spec highlights include a 13-megapixel main camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, a 3,220 mAh battery, and wireless charging capabilities for extra convenience.
The Nexus 6 served as one of the launch vehicles for the previous Android version, Lollipop, but it’s now receiving the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. When it comes to continued support, the Nexus 6 will still be among the first in line to get the newest Android updates for another year.
With the Nexus 6 now officially retired from the Google Store, interested customers who would still like to purchase the device might want to check out retailer offers while they still last. It may no longer be the latest Nexus flagship, but it’s still a powerful phablet with plenty to offer.
