A Samsung Galaxy S7 variant boasting Snapdragon 820 has allegedly notched a score of 5,423 in multi-core performance, suggesting that future users could enjoy an incredible Samsung handset down the road.
Earlier reports confirmed that Samsung is going to unwrap two variants of the Galaxy S7. One variant will house an Exynos 8890 chipset clocked at 2.4 GHz while the other will brag Snapdragon 820 SoC from Qualcomm.
A Geekbench score has been leaked out, suggesting that the Galaxy S7’s Snapdragon 820 garnered 2,456 in single-core performance while it got 5,423 in multi-core performance. A reliable Chinese tipster revealed the scores via a post on Weibo. This chipset uses four Kryo CPU cores, two cores clocked at 1.6 through 1.7 GHz while the other two clocked at 2.2 GHz. The Weibo post also noted that this Snapdragon 820 chipset is purposely optimized for Samsung.
Given the fact that this Snapdragon 820 chip will operate at a higher frequency as opposed to the regular version, a heat pipe is purported to be incorporated to aid in thermal control.
When compared to the Exynos 8890 equipped in one variant of the Galaxy S7, the Snapdragon 820 is lesser impressive. The Galaxy S7 with Exynos 8890 achieved 2,294 points on the single-core test while it nabbed a remarkable 6,908 points in the multi-core test. It appears that the Exynos-based variant will be the way to go if performance is one of your top considerations.
In the meantime, Apple iPhone 6s Plus, which comes packed with Apple A9 recorded 2,498 in single-core and 4,351 in multi-core. Apple iPad Pro, however, which features Apple A9X, managed to record a score of 3,222 in single-core and 5,468 in multi-core.
If this new Geekbench result is true enough, it could signify that customers in the United States and China should not be bothered about the performance of the two variants of Galaxy S7.
Since the Samsung Galaxy S7 will reportedly be launched not earlier than Feb. 21 next year, there’s still a probability that this rumor will turn out to be untrue. As such, it is best to take this story with a grain of salt.
The upcoming flagship Galaxy S7 will rock the same design as the Galaxy S6. It is said that it’s only going to receive under-the-hood enhancements.
