Sony has been struggling to find a place in the crowded smartphone market. The company’s next-generation Xperia Z6, Z6 Mini, Z6 Compact, Z6 Plus, and Z6 Ultra, which are expected to debut at CES 2016, have made an appearance on AnTuTu, revealing some of the smartphone series’ key specs.
Sony is looking to expand its presence in the smartphone arena in 2016 and is expected to officially announce its next-generation Xperia Z6 series at a press event scheduled for Jan. 5, 2016, during CES in Las Vegas.
Details regarding the Sony Xperia Z6 series were posted on AnTuTu’s Weibo account. The post lists five new smartphones that will reportedly make up the Sony Xperia Z6 series. The listing provided what are expected to be the official names for the devices, display sizes, and what kind of processors will power the handsets.
The Sony Xperia Z6 Mini will feature a 4-inch display, the Z6 Compact will pack a 4.6-inch display, the Z6 will include a 5.2-inch screen, the Z6 Plus will boast a 5.8-inch display, and the Xperia Z6 Ultra will enter mini tablet proportions with a 6.4-inch display.
According to the post, the Xperia Z6 Compact, Z6, Z6 Plus, and Z6 Ultra will be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 820 processor, while the Xperia Z6 Mini will reportedly feature a Snapdragon 620 CPU.
While images of the Xperia Z6 series haven’t leaked yet, it’s widely assumed that the smartphones will be built out of premium materials including metal and glass, feature high-end cameras with Sony’s Cyber-shot and Handycam technologies built-in, and be both IP65 and IP68 certified dust-resistant and waterproof. Sony was one of the first smartphone makers to ship a waterproof handset when it introduced the Xperia Z at CES 2013 and has since used the feature in many of its smartphones and tablets to differentiate itself from Android rivals.
As always, once we hear any new information and details regarding the Sony Xperia Z6 series, we’ll report right back to you.
