Many of us don’t ask for much in life, a safe home and a loving family perhaps, a well-paid job and good friends or even a bit of luck every now and again. One thing that almost every man and woman on the planet wants though, is to be happy. The happiness we seek could come in many different forms but as long as we can find it, then we know that our lives will be alright. There are some ways that you can improve your levels of happiness through your own doing instead of waiting for life to hand it down to you and here are just a few ways that you can do so.
Give Something Back
Giving your time or your possessions to charity in order to do some good is incredibly rewarding and can help you feel very happy and good about yourself, you don’t have to do some grand gesture, it could be as simple as writing a cheque to a charity or organization that helps others. I was reading about the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) last week and how they rely almost solely on donations from others. With the donations that the church receives they offer humanitarian work throughout Africa and this year gave over $500,000 in humanitarian aid to Ecuador after their earthquake. Just imagine giving money to a charity or organization who then went on to use your money to help those in such tragic circumstances.
Fake it
It is scientifically proven that our feelings follow our actions and if you paint a smile on your face when you’re not feeling happy, it won’t be long before your emotions follow suit. This is an incredible simply yet highly effective way of feeling happier when times are bad.
Buy a Slice of Happiness
People say that happiness cannot be bought but I disagree with this, in y opinion it is joy that cannot be bought, but happiness is available to you for a range of prices. As a pick-me-up there is nothing wrong with heading down to your favorite shop and buying something for yourself that will make you happy, it could be a dress, the latest gadget or even some food, whatever it takes to put a little smile back on your face and give you that warm, happy feeling inside.
Start Exercising
One of the best ways to feel happier is to use the body’s natural, happiness chemicals run riot, we’re talking about endorphins, the feel good chemicals that your body produces. The best way to set the endorphins free is to make some exercise. Regular exercise will lead to a happier you, not to mention a fitter and healthier you and if possible, hitting the gym as soon as you can will dramatically change your levels of happiness. I cannot tell you the amount of times that I’ve gone to the gym feeling stressed or angry and left it with a smile on my face like a Cheshire cat, work out and feel happier, simple.
