JEE Main is the national level entrance exam conducted for admissions to undergraduate engineering programs at NITs, IIITs and other CFTIs. JEE Main is also the qualifying test for JEE Advanced which offers admission to IITs.
Due to the vastness of syllabus and the level of competition, it is considered as one of the toughest engineering entrance examination at the undergraduate level.
How is JEE Mains different from JEE Advanced?
Cracking JEE Mains is the first milestone for aspiring IITians. Candidates often get confused between the two tests, wondering what is the basic difference between JEE Advanced and JEE Main.
JEE Main and JEE Advanced are two stages of the same exam, but they differ in various aspects. The score of JEE Main is essential for getting admission into the 4-year degree courses of science and engineering in institutions like NITs, IIITs and other government colleges in India. Only those who qualify JEE Main are entitled to appear for JEE Advanced.
The candidates who further clear JEE Advanced are then entitled to admission to engineering programs offered by the world-renowned IITs. JEE Main examines only the speed of aspirants whereas JEE Advanced tests both, speed and accuracy.
The syllabus for both the tests is different as more topics are included in the Advanced level exam. JEE Main consists of MCQs whereas questions in JEE Advanced are of objective type. An applicant can appear for Mains exam only 3 times in his lifetime whereas JEE Advanced can be attempted only 2 times in consecutive years.
