I am not a great artist.
Don’t get me wrong, I can draw a lot of things fairly well and I can compose a scene clearly, but I wouldn’t consider myself a great draftsman like Arno, Watterson, or my late friend, Richard Thompson. So when I had to draw a realistic hand for this cartoon, I kind of cheated.
I took a bunch of pictures of my left hand, imported them into Photoshop, chose the best one, set the layer opacity to around 50 percent and got down to some loose tracing. I’m not proud of it, but I know my limits and I’m nothing if not practical and efficient. And to be fair, it is my left hand. So if anyone is allowed to trace it, it’s me.
All this to say if you ever wanted to know what my left hand looks like, there it is.
