If you noticed that Kesha is no longer following you on social media, don’t take it personally.
The “Tik Tok” singer announced Tuesday that the new year will be focused more on her mental health and “spiritual self,” which means taking a step back from her social media use.
“I’m not disappearing, just trying to be less obsessed with the Internet. I have been reading about the emotional effects of social media and it seems that it may help my anxiety and depression if I am more present,” Kesha captioned a similar note she posted on her Instagram. “Less screens. less internet. life is one big experiment. let’s see how it goes.”
Despite her decision to unfollow some fans as part of her Internet cleanse, Kesha insisted that her supporters are still her No. 1 priority. “I cherish my fans more than anything in the world, this doesn’t change that animals,” she wrote.
As Kesha mentioned, her lessening social media usage doesn’t mean she’s completely going away. In a New Year’s Eve post reflecting on the trying year that was 2016, Kesha promised that she has “so much music” she hopes to share this year.
