Earlier this week, Apple announced the release of its Smart Battery Case, offering up to 25 hours of increased talk time.
Well, not to be outdone — and possibly jabbing at Apple a little bit in the process — Tesla has introduced RFID-blocking iPhone 6 and 6 Plus leather wallet cases to its online store, as spotted by 9 to 5 Mac. Each case carries a price of $50, half the $100 cost of Apple’s Smart Battery Case.
Don’t put it past Tesla to have released its own case for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus during the same week that Apple unveiled its own just to spurn its competitor … and right in time for the holidays. Don’t forget that Tesla CEO Elon Musk called Apple “the Tesla graveyard” this past October in response to Apple hiring many engineers who formerly worked for Tesla to work on its planned dive into the auto industry.
Whatever the true motivation behind the case is, it’s made from automotive-grade leather scraps from the interior of its vehicles, so it’s good that the automaker is not wasting its materials. It also boasts functionality with a nice smooth look to match.
The leather design is bolstered with two wallet slots for credit cards on the iPhone 6 case and three on the 6 Plus case, with each touting RFID-blocking technology so that any lurking skimmers won’t be successful in ripping you off.
Tesla has also updated its online store to include a pair of $100 touchscreen-friendly leather gloves … to match the iPhone 6 case, of course.
Both items are part of the Tesla Design Collection.
