So as to physically prepare girl students for facing any sudden mishap, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued orders to all the CBSE affiliated schools to spare everyday’s 45 minutes to provide self defence training to girls.
Incidents related to girl child molestation is increasing day by day and it is very much mandatory that in such situations, rather than acting helpless, the girl can put some efforts for her protection.
As per newspaper reports, the circular regarding the same was issued after some recent unfortunate incidents came in the limelight. As per the orders of the CBSE, schools have been asked to impart one week training on self-defence to all the girl students of Classes 1 to 10 at the beginning of both the terms.
Principal of Government Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 16, Anujit Kaur is of the opinion that the self-defence training classes should be made mandatory for girls so that even those girls who are not part of physical education or any sports can come forward to actively participate in it.
In the year 2010 also, the CBSE had made recommendations that there should be at least 40-45 minutes of physical activities or games period for Classes 1 to 10 everyday.
As per the CBSE circular, it is now suggested that one period out of the entire lot may be utilised for self-defence activities for girls. This will ensure that after the initial week’s training, the girl students are continuously updated with knowledge, strategies and skills for self-defence.
