The international organisation ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), which is responsible for key aspects of the internet’s operation, will hold its next annual conference in Copenhagen.
From 11-16 March 2017, more than 2,000 of the world’s leading internet stakeholders are expected in the capital to discuss how the internet should be run in the future.
Business minister: good for Denmark
The business authority Erhvervsstyrelsen is one of the partners in organising the conference and Troels Lund Poulsen, the business and growth minister, sees it as a boon for Denmark
“I’m looking forward to the Danish business community and others interested in the internet’s future getting the opportunity to participate and influence the dialogue about how the internet can continue to be the global and free resource that we know today,” he said.
“The internet is the fundamental infrastructure for modern-day growth and innovation. All parts of society, not least the business community, is dependent on us having global, free and open internet, that all users can have confidence in. And management of the internet is crucial for how we manage this global common good.”
ICANN’s responsibilities include administering domain names and IP-addresses at the global level. It is a non-profit organisation and uses a multistakeholder policy-making model based on input from all stakeholders.
