Xiaomi Mi 6X (Mi A2) vs Redmi Note 5 Pro: Specification compariso...

Xiaomi unveiled the Mi 6X in China a few days back and there is a possibility that the device might make its way onto Indian shores. The device’s predecessor, the Mi 5X, was launched in India as the Mi A1, so there is a chance that this new device might be the Mi A2. The Xiaomi Mi A1 was the first smartphone by the company that offered stock Android as it was a part of Google Android One Program. It’s possible that Xiaomi may follow suit with the Mi A2 if the company decides to launch the phone in India.

Another thing to note was that the Xiaomi Mi A1 was priced quite competitively and was only a few thousand Rupees more expensive than the Redmi Note 4. Keeping that in mind, here’s a spec comparison between the Xiaomi Mi 6X (Mi A2) and the current flagship of the Redmi range in India, the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

But first, here’s a look at how the two phones stack up against each other.

Xiaomi Mi 6X Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro
Price Approx Rs 16,900/Rs 19,900/Rs 21,100 Rs 13,999/Rs 16,999
Display 5.99-inch FHD+ 5.99-inch FHD+
Resolution 2160 x 1080 2160 x 1080
Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Qualcomm Snapdragon 636
RAM 4GB/6GB 4GB/6GB
Storage 64GB/128GB 64GB
Rear camera 20MP+12MP 12MP+5MP
Front camera 20MP 20MP
Battery 3010mAh 4000mAh

Design and display

Design-wise, the two phones are more-or-less identical. Both devices feature a metal unibody design with vertically stacked dual-rear cameras and a centrally located fingerprint sensor. The display is also the same on paper with a 5.99-inch FHD+ display. Another point of difference is the USB port. While the Redmi Note 5 Pro sports a microUSB port, the Mi 6X (Mi A2) sports a USB Type-C port.

Processor

Here’s where the differences between the two devices start popping up. The Redmi Note 5 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 636 SoC, making it one of the more powerful devices in its price range. It even managed to beat the new Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, which is powered by the same processor. However, the Snapdragon 660 processor in the Mi 6X is even more powerful. Like the Snapdragon 636, it too is powered by eight Kryo 260 cores. However, the Snapdragon 660 features an Adreno 512 GPU that’s more powerful than the Adreno 509 GPU in the Snapdragon 636. Another difference is that the Snapdragon 660 is designed to support on-device AI. Of course, you’ll have to wait for our review to know what the performance difference is between the two phones.

Camera

The Xiaomi Mi 6X (Mi A2), also seems to offer an upgrade in terms of camera (at least on paper). While the Redmi Note 5 Pro offered a 12MP+5MP cameras, the Mi 6X offers a 20MP+12MP cameras. Over on the front through, both cameras feature a 20MP unit. Again, we’ll have to wait till we get our hands on the device before we can judge which one is better.

Bottomline

Specification-wise, it seems like the Mi 6X (Mi A2) is a better phone than the Redmi Note 5 Pro and judging by the Chinese pricing of the phone, it better be. The Mi 6X (Mi A2) starts at CNY 1599 (approx Rs 16,900) for the 6GB RAM/64GB storage variant, while the top-of-the-line variant with 6GB RAM/128GB storage is priced at CNY 1999 (approx Rs 21,100). By comparison, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is priced at Rs 13,999 for the 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant, while the 6GB RAM/64Gb storage variant is priced at Rs 16,999. Of course, we still have to wait for Xiaomi to officially launch the phone in India before we can pass any judgement. Till then, you can check out our review of the Redmi Note 5 Pro here.
