The all-new second-generation 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT sets itself apart from other compact hatchbacks available on the Canadian market with its European-inspired design and upgraded level of refinement. It is now available at Hyundai dealerships across Canada, and we have pricing details for you.
Offered starting at $20,449 (the first time its base model breaks the $20,000 barrier), the Elantra GT is equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with direct injection and an output of 161 hp (12 less than previously) and 150 lb-ft of torque via a 6-speed manual transmission. A 6-speed automatic is available as an option. The new GT also comes with a standard 8-inch touchscreen display offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel―which no competing model currently offers.
The drop in horses in the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT is made up for by the addition of a Sport version featuring a 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that generates 201 hp and 196 lb-ft of torque. It’s wedded to the same 6-speed manual gearbox, while the optional automatic transmission is a 7-speed dual-clutch unit that comes with paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
It’s also worth noting that the new Elantra GT is the first Hyundai vehicle in Canada to offer the BlueLink telematics system, easily accessible via buttons on the rear-view mirror, or else via the Internet or a smartphone app. Functionalities of the system include remote starter, climate control and lock/unlock feature, Google’s Local Search, the Find My Car function and upgraded roadside assistance. Included in the Sport Ultimate version, the service is activated free of charge for five years after purchase.
