Mahindra’s leadership position in the UV segment in India has been threatened by the arrival of new cars like Vitara Brezza and the Jeep Compass. Mahindra is working to come back in the market with new products. To further strengthen their position in the market, Mahindra will launch four new products this year. What are these products? Mahindra XUV500 facelift
Launch: April 2018
Mahindra will launch the facelifted version of the XUV 500 next week in India. The facelifted SUV will get a new grille, new bumpers, new headlamps and tail lamps. The interiors will be updated too and it will become much plusher. The new Mahindra XUV 500 also gets a more powerful engine with the top-end variant. The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine has been tuned to produce a maximum power of 155 Bhp and 360 Nm while the other variants will be offered in current 140 Bhp – 330 Nm state-of-tune. Mahindra will continue to offer the 2.2-litre petrol engine too.
Mahindra XUV700 – Toyota Fortuner rival
Launch: September/October 2018
Mahindra showcased the XUV700 at the 2018 Auto Expo. The rebadged version of the G4 Rexton, the XUV700 will be powered by a turbocharged diesel engine with 2.2-litre displacement. This engine has been developed with SsangYong and it produces a peak power of 178 Bhp – 420 Nm. It gets a 7-speed automatic transmission sourced from Mercedes-Benz. The launch is expected to happen by year-end. The price is expected to be around Rs. 21 lakh. The SUV will get many segment-first features and will be a value for money product. The new SUV will take on Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and Toyota Fortuner.
Mahindra S201 – Hyundai Creta rival
Launch: November/December 2018
Mahindra will launch its third product in the sub 4-meter compact SUV segment in the form of S201 SWB. This will be Mahindra’s answer to the sub 4-meter compact SUV segment that comprises Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and other such compact SUVs. The SUV will be powered by an all-new turbo-petrol engine that generates 140 Bhp and a new turbo-diesel engine that generates 125 Bhp.
Mahindra U321 – Toyota Innova rival
Launch: Launch: November/December 2018
The Mahindra U321 is an upcoming MPV that Mahindra will field against the Toyota Innova in the market. The 7-seater MPV will offer a lot of premium features and a great level of comfort. The MPV has been caught on test multiple times already. This is the first MPV that is being developed by the manufacturer’s North American development centre in Troy, Michigan. The U321 will be a global MPV that will be available in various markets including India. Details like platform or engine are not known as of now.
